C.A.R.E.S.  Preservation Program

The purpose of the C.A.R.E.S. Preservation Program is to encourage hobbyists worldwide to devote tank space to one or more species-at-risk, while forming an information network between aquarists, scientists, and conservationists.

The C.A.R.E.S. Preservation Program has four major goals:

1. To bring AWARENESS to the critical situation of our fish in nature

2. To RECOGNIZE, ENCOURAGE, and offer SUPPORT to hobbyists who maintain species-at-risk

3. To SHARE data and experiences through notes, graphing, and manuscripts so that others may learn to maintain those identical, and similar species

4. To PRESERVE species-at-risk for future generations

Text Box: These beautiful fish have the potential to disappear in their natural habitat if we as hobbyists just sit by and do nothing.

The ideal situation would be to save their natural habitat but political instability, industrialization and the need for food in the country's in question prevents a quick solution. By the time these problems are solved, some species will certainly be lost.

Scientists have realized that a captive breeding program might be a viable solution to save some species from total extinction. That is where C.A.R.E.S. comes in.

C.A.R.E.S. is geared toward the national and local aquaristic hobby clubs. EVERYBODY including the novice is able to participate and be part of something big. All it takes is to make some tank space available to maintain and (hopefully) breed fish that are listed on the C.A.R.E.S. Priority List and distribute the fry to other interested hobbyists.

Please check with your club executive and ask your club to be signed up and help make a difference.
