Neolamprologus
Text Box: The genus Neolamprologus contains more species then any other from Lake Tanganyika. These carnivorous cichlids live all over the lake in depth between 5 and 20 meters were they feed on small invertebrates. Most Neolamprologus species have different color variants depending on the geographic location. I always had an affinity with these fish since they are most interesting in their behavioral patterns. Especially Brichardi and Pulcher are unique. Not only are both parents involved in bringing up the fry but also the older siblings.
Some of our more popular aquarium fish come out of this genus like N. Leleupi, N. Cylindricus, N. Buescheri and of course N. Brichardi and N. Pulcher (Daffodil). The maintenance of these cichlids is not very difficult and they are an ideal fish for the beginner. If kept properly and if provided with some caves, most Neolamprologus will soon start breeding.
